A seasoned reporter passionate about creating quality, engaging and ethical journalism, I've accrued agenda-setting frontpage exclusives, interviewed powerful and influential people, worked hard to lend a voice to marginalised communities, covered protests on the ground and underground (literally) art shows, had a bit of fun here and there with travel and luxury writing. I even found a way to make dry finance stories stimulating and have written some cool stuff about the global salmon industry, of all things.
An adventurer at heart, my work has given me an excuse to explore all kinds of worlds. I've found my way into illicit triad-infested electronic waste dumps in Hong Kong's outskirts to cover a toxic trail leading from the US. I've interviewed Czech youths expressing apathy and political disengagement twenty years on from the fall of the Iron Curtain. I've chatted with art moguls about why they're entering the Chinese market. I can spot a good and original story a mile away, and know what to do to get it done and get it published.
I have a Masters in journalism from City University, London (the U.K.'s most competitive course of its kind) and have most recently been serving as a journalism fellow at the European Journalism Observatory, which acts as a bridge between practicing journalists and media researchers, and for which I produced original work and research while translating academic texts. As a journalist, I specialise in feature writing, and am especially strong at interview and analysis pieces that are of a zany bent. A digital native who has also worked in print, I can adapt my pieces to take on whatever appropriate format they need. Yes, I know SEO. No. I'm not a content farm.
Content Marketing
It's a no brainer that the qualities and experience described above can be applied to work of boosting a brand's credibility and presence. As a content marketer, I've worked with a number of household names in banking, healthcare, technology, arts, culture, travel and fashion.
I've interviewed a Shenzhen-based factory owner and workers for a piece for German fashion brand CLOSED, crafted quality analysis pieces on how the Sino-US trade war was affecting global supply chains for a project with ANZ Bank and The Wall Street Journal Customs Studio, ghostwritten lively LinkedIn articles on behalf of consultants specialising in artificial intelligence, and wrote about fancy watches with an emphasis on history and heritage. Ask me to tell your story as an artist and you'll make me especially happy. I've also done a lot of work in sustainability and CSR, so am keen to write your company's love letters to Mother Earth (provided they're not greenwash).
As a straight shooter with a reputation for research rigour, I work with clients who want world class content from an expert who knows the media industry inside out and refuses to cut corners.
Some formats I specialise in -- Interview pieces with a strong brand history bent -- Ghostwritten opinion and explainer pieces (academics love me, so do artists) -- Informative blog posts and column-style articles -- Art and luxury brochures
Translation
You'll want me to translate your pieces from German into English for you. That's because I'm not just a linguist, I'm a seasoned editor who can make your writing even better than it was in the original.
Event and conference coverage
> Dear Sarah, > > I just read your article on my talk yesterday at the Book Fair and wanted to thank you for your uncanny ability to pick the best bits from a two hour session. The entire piece is terrific, and the headline is great! > > With best wishes, > > Frank
This is an unsolicited email I got once from esteemed historian Frank Dikötter. Hire me to cover your conference in a way that makes anyone want to read about its highlights, and you won't be disappointed.
