An Ode to Craftsmanship
Among the inspiring people I’ve been lucky to cross paths with is my Hungarian godmother’s mother Klara, or Klaraneni, as we called her: Klara was a retired jazz pianist who lived an incredible life as checkered as Hungarian history. Her love for her craft was fierce and unforgettable.
As a piano teacher, she took no prisoners. “Look the music!” she’d scream if your eyes ever darted to your fingers. As a performer, she knew exactly how to work a crowd with a virtuosity and flamboyance that spoke to the decades of painstaking dedication to her work.
Klara didn’t really care about the cultural cache of a composer. She would just as happily play schmaltzy love songs and Soviet pastiches as she would rousing Bartok and Gerschwin numbers. What mattered most was that her audience were suitably beguiled and entertained, and she tailored accordingly.
Communications Specialist
Through my career as a journalist and communications specialist, I’ve striven to maintain this standard of true craftsmanship, and I’ve always held it in high regard wherever I’ve seen it. That’s whether it’s come from a curmudgeonly editor complaining about the laziness of a generalisation, the finesse of an unflinching take down, or the elegance of a single stroke of ink that speaks volumes. I apply these tenets of craftsmanship to all my communications endeavours, and continuously hone my skills to create high quality work across the range of services that I provide clients who share my values.
Translation (German into English)
I've been working a translator (mostly German into English) since I was a teenager, where I learnt the importance of accuracy over everything else. I went on to study translation theory under leading academics in the field at the University of Oxford. Clients range from innovation startups and media theorists, to art curators and political magazines. Basically my bag is anything that needs to be good.
Content Strategy
A journalist by training with a background in the fast-paced newspaper world, I cut my teeth as a news reporter, where I excelled at spotting captivating stories and packaging them in ways that resonated with broad audiences.
Since then, I’ve worked in a variety of roles involving all elements of content strategy - from ideation and execution to dissemination. My experience spans the agency and startup world, and has involved working with names like Siemens, USM, CLOSED, and Mitsui.
A versatile and meticulous communicator, you’re just as likely to see my name on a long form content marketing article that unveils the unique founding story of a healthcare startup as you would see me edit and re-edit the same headline or caption for á design studio’s social media account.
Oh, and I'm allergic to misinformation, so be sure to expect all facts to be meticulously checked and an absence of all superlatives without attribution. ;)
Ghostwriting and branding
I love experts. Experts love me. Experts especially love the work I do turning their complex ideas into intelligible and compelling content. Whether I'm writing the LinkedIn post of an innovation consultant, covering a conference on AI, or editing a former Ambassador's white paper on geopolitics, I apply my signature verbal dexterity-meets-journalistic-rigour to everything I do.
Unfazed by complexity and subject areas that require hefty research and steep learning curves, you can depend on me to make your meaty ideas palatable to everyone. But don't ask me, ask a former colleague from a stint I did in deep tech writing:
"A word that keeps coming back to mind when thinking about Sarah is 'talented'. She has a sound understanding of deep tech topics - and on top of that - can translate them to be engaging and informative, even for a non-techy crowd. Sarah easily identifies an exciting angle and knows where (and when) to dig a little deeper. In quick words: a great journalist."
